DPWG-LGD Agenda and Activities:

  • The DPWG-LGD organizes an event at the EDD - European Development Days, November 15 to 17, 2008 in Strassbourg.

The DPWG-LGD presents a side event at the EDD with a panel to be composed by representatives of two donor countries (Denmark and the Netherlands) and two African partner countries (Tanzania and South Africa), discussing the harmonization and alignment approaches for strengthening local governance and decentralisation in South Africa and Tanzania. More information on the EDD: http://www.eudevdays.eu/

As soon as we will have defined further details of the panel, we will give you more information.

  • The DPWG-LG&D Secretariat  was recently inaugurated. Funded by the German Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ), the Secretariate is working at the InWEnt-office in Bonn, Germany and is composed by: Nina Helm, Senior Project Manager, and Cornelia Parisius, Project Manager (see contacts above).

  • Linking our programmes: in accordance with the Survey on Support to Local Governance and Decentralisation (2006) and at the request of the DPWG-LGD, the members should communicate among themselves the LG & D- programmes carried out by the donor organizations. InWEnt is making a first step in order to contribute to a more harmonised, transparent and effective approach (as, e.g. joint evaluations), giving a review on its current and new programmes on LG & D. We would higly welcome analogical iniciatives from the other members of the WG.
  • See InWEnt programme

  • InWEnt offers 2-day training seminars on Aid Effectiveness and Donor Harmonization
  • English-speaking professionals in the field of Development Cooperation can benefit greatly from the 2-day training seminars on Aid Effectiveness and Donor Harmonization conducted by InWEnt at its training center in Bad Honnef, Germany (near Bonn).

The goal is to make development policy interventions more effective and efficient at all levels. Participants will identify potential means of achieving a sustainable and significant European contribution for their particular fields of responsibility.
